Physical Description:

At six and half feet tall and nearly three hundred pounds, with a barrel chest, broad shoulders, and voluminous bass-baritone voice, Lord Ihylden tends to stand out in a crowd. He has hazel eyes, short dark grey hair, and rugged facial features with a beak-ish nose. He tends to carry himself with an elitist air, acting at times as if people below a certain societal rank are invisible to him.

Personality:

Ihylden is a hard line traditionalist, ruling over his Hold with an iron fist and an icy disposition. As Lord Holder he feels that he and his family are entitled to the best of everything, and first pickings when there's something to be distributed amongst the holders. For example, no matter how short the supply of certain foodstuffs gets, his table will always be overflowing with those foods.

As a man, Ihylden is a boisterous, larger than life, bluntly matter of fact type of man. He loves his food, his drink, and his women in generous proportions. Of those children who have survived infancy, he's sired 17 legitimate ones by 5 wives, and probably twice as many by countless mistresses. Though in his ninth decade of life, he's not begun to slow down in his lust for women -- young and pretty women, those in their late teens and twenties, that is. When speaking with them, he has a nasty habit of talking to their cleavage. Female dragonriders are of peculiar interest to him.

Background:

The second of five legitimate children, and only son, born to Kielden, the late Lord Holder of Fairview Seahold, Ihylden and his yougest sibling, Kielissa of Timber Ridge, are the only remaining members of his generation. In 3257, at the age of 46, Ihylden was elected Lord Holder of Fairview following the death of Kielden, age 72, of a heart attack.

In his youth, Ihylden fostered with several Lords or Seaholders at such widely divergent locations as Tillek, Paradise River, Half-Circle, Ista, and Ierne Island to get a feel for how other Seacraft-based Holds were run. Interestingly, each of his five wives is originally from one of those Holds -- although, all but one, Phebby of Half-Circle, was a poor relation of the Lord Holder there, Fairview being too unimportant a Seahold to waste a more valuable Blood relation on.

Under Ihylden's lordship, Fairview has continued to prosper. However, like his father before him, he's never been able to escape from the shadow of his great-grandfather, Cevilyn, whose 71-Turn reign in the wake of the Great Plague is still thought of as the Golden Turns of the Seahold's history. Cevilyn, at age 16, had succeeded to the lordship following the death of his father, Lord Trevlyn, of the plague in 3137. Cevilyn himself had suffered with it despite having been evacuated to a supposedly safe holding in the mountains. He outlived most of his male heirs, passing his title on his death bed to his then 23-Turn-old grandson, Kielden, in 3208.
