Physical Description:

6'2" at 170lbs.... Nykolas has a medium lean muscular build. His shoulders are broad and his hairless nicely defined chest tapers down to six pack stomach and slim hips. He has elegant hands with long tapered fingers. He has long legs and big feet. His dark brown/black hair is very short, that comes to a widows peak on his forehead and is tapered down on his neck in the back. His eyes are a golden brown. His upper lip is obscured by the mustache of his goatee, but the bottom lip is medium to full. His nose looks as if it had been sculpted to fit his face perfectly. Nykolas' complexion is fair.

Personality:

Nykolas is always in control. He keeps his emotions to himself by wearing a calm cool exterior but his dark brown eyes can sometimes smolder with is anger and compassion. The intensity of his angry stare can intimidate almost anyone he directs it towards. Upon first meeting, he can seems rather cold, but in truth, he is a fair and compassionate man.

As Lord Holder Protem, he makes educated decisions by taking in all available information and suggestions before coming to a decision. When he does make a decision, he expects that things are done quickly, and to his specifications.

His greatest fear is that his father will be successful in arranging a marriage for power. He doesn't relish the thought of being married off to a whiny woman who will be clingy and unable to think on her own. Instead, he would rather spend his spare time working on inventions that would improve the way of life on Pern.

Background:

Nykolas' childhood was quite normal, the only exception was having the privileges as the son of a Lord Holder. He was bright and inquisitive, which made him an excellent student. His need to know drove him to excel in his lessons. Afterwards, he spent most of his time having adventures exploring the Hold and the surrounding land.

Since Nykolas had two older brothers ahead of him in line for the lordship of Star Peak Hold, it was decided that he should choose a craft. When he was twelve, he was chosen for one of the coveted apprenticeships at the AVIAS Technical School. His inquisitive logical mind was challenged, and he excelled there. With what he learned, the young man felt that he could make life better for the people of Pern. Working hard, he reached the rank of journeyman. As he worked towards his masters knots, he was recalled to Star Peak Hold to become Lord Holder Pro-Tem.

His father, Trezar was seriously injured in accident that left the Lord Holder bedridden, and unable to run the Hold. Trezar knew that Nykolas was the logical choice to succeed him. Veran had been trained to take over the leadership, but he was more interested in soldiering and hunting; his short time as Steward had been a disastrous. The other son, Marko, decided to remain a journeyman healer; he felt he was not suited to taking control of a hold. Trezar knew that Nykolas was the only one with the aptitude to make the Hold prosperous.

Nykolas reluctantly agreed to leave his training at ATS to take over running of Star Peak Hold until his father was strong enough to take control back. However, Trezar's injuries would never let him take back control. The healers were sworn to keep it a secret. It was Trezar's hope that over time, Nykolas would settle in as Lord Holder and give up on ever becoming a master.
