Age of Persona: 60
Birthing Date: 3238.03.20
Place of Birth: Star Peak Hold
Occupation: -
Rank: Lady Weyrholder
Current Location: Rocky Crater Weyrhold

Physical Description:

Small of stature (5'2" if she stretches herself as upright as possible without standing on tiptoe), Imara can easily get lost in a crowd. She appears to be an average woman of the Weyrhold, medium build with a slight thickening of the waistline and a few more pounds than she carried two decades ago. At chin-length, her hair is shorter than most women's, usually wavy, but forming tight curls around her face when damp. Its color was originally a dark brown, but has picked up some gray over the turns -- she claims one strand for each dragonrider to have crossed her path since becoming Lady Weyrholder. When she glances your way is when she shows herself to be more than average: blue-gray eyes hold a keen intelligence and at times appear to pierce into those under their scrutiny. She wears earth-toned clothing, loose enough to be comfortable, yet fitting close enough to show her definitely a woman. She walks with a purposeful stride, but is as likely to sit on the fringes of a room and watch others unobtrusively. Her voice, normally soft and gentle, can be raised to project to an entire room, and _will_ hold their attention.

Personality:

The best characterization of Imara is steady and accepting. Her life has turned out a bit differently than what she planned, some of it better, some disappointing, but she accepts what she's been handed and makes the most of it. Her biggest disappointment has been the loss of her family. Though her marriage was arranged, she felt a kinship with her husband, especially after the birth of their son, and fell into a deep depression after they left Rocky Crater to return to Starcraft Hall. Only Rynth's continual presence brought her back from that low, and she still occasionally feels alone and needs to be reminded that she has her dragon and a Weyrhold full of dragonriders as her family.

A good organizer, Imara runs the Weyr with efficiency, keeping careful records and schedules. She also is intuitive and caring, trying to accommodate her riders' feelings and hopes as much as possible. However, she can be extremely impatient and scathing in her rebukes, especially when faced with incompetence, cruelty, or thoughtlessness.

Her secret vice? She enjoys sweets, and often sneaks off to the kitchen at night to snack.

Her secret fear? Crawlers. Though she responds stoically, inwardly she cringes at the sight of them.

Background:

Imara was born at Star Peak Hold, the only child of Salim, a metalsmith, and Marista, who had endured three miscarriages and two stillbirths before the girl's birth. The child grew as all girl children did, being trained in feminine pursuits, and with the attitude that she was needed to bear children, and to be supportive of her husband's work. That husband was found as a result of her father's craft, and Imara's record-keeping for him: crafters from Starcraft Hall often visited Salim with specialized orders, and Kishant was no exception. During his trips to the Hold, he enlisted the girl's help in recording weather data for his research, teaching her how to use the various data devices he had devised and Imara's father had constructed. When she reached marriageable age, he bespoke her parents, and the arrangements were made quickly. That fall, the two were married, and Imara moved to the Hall, where a Turn and a half later she bore him a son.

The following Turn brought a major event that changed the course of Imara's life: Kishant was transferred to the Weyrhold to organize their weather records. Shortly after their arrival, gold Chealth produced a clutch which included a gold egg. With shortages of candidates, all females of Impressionable age were expected to Stand at the Hatching, including Imara. When the little gold broke shell, she wasted no time in finding Imara and announcing her name to be Rynth. Kishant tried to wait it out, tried to maintain their marriage, but eventually the two had to accept that life with a dragon, particularly a gold dragon, meant a different lifestyle. When he returned to Starcraft Hall, he took their son with him, so that the boy could grow up with family.

In the Turns that followed, Imara formed a couple of attachments, short in duration, but filling a void in her life. She also birthed another child, a daughter, the product of a flight, allowing her to see herself as doing her part toward replenishing the population. This child was able to spend more time with Imara, but still grew to be much closer to her fostermother than to the goldrider.

Imara had settled comfortably into her work routines when Turnover of 3271 brought a surprise: Lady Weyrholder Maerka announced her retirement, due to the failure of her gold Chealth to rise. A sevenday later, Rynth rose and was caught by Lord Weyrleader G'hator's Alegeth. The bronzerider was able to help her settle into her new role, and continued in his for another two Turns. There followed a succession of new leaders, some lasting for only one flight, some for up to six Turns. During that time, Imara continued to do her duty, forming no new attachments, but instead presenting a united front with her co-leader -- even in those cases when they could barely stand the sight of each other. The latest of these is new enough not to have settled into a category of friend or foe.

Dragonrider Information:

Dragon's Name: Rynth
Age: 40
Color: Gold
Size: L: 47' / WS: 73'
Weyr of Origin: Rocky Crater Weyrhold
Wing: Queen's Wing
Dam / Sire: Chealth / Honalth
Hatching Date: 3258.01.17

Description:
A moderate sized gold, Rynth is long in body with wingspan short by comparison, and a thinner than usual head. Her color has darkened over the Turns, particularly on her body, with wings maintaining a lighter gold, particularly toward the tips and edges. She carries a series of scars on her back, ranging from bronze to dark brown, the result of past mating flights.

Personality:
Rynth is and always has been demanding of her rider's attention. Though this has placed many demands on Imara, it has also acted as an anchor when she remembers what she has forfeited in life. The gold is arrogant, yet often surprises her rider when she shows sensitivity to the other dragons' and riders' unspoken problems. Though she sometimes seems grumpy, she also can exhibit a subtle sense of humor.
